La Santa Cecilia Swings Back

By: José Manuel Simián

La Santa Cecilia has finished recording their follow-up to 2014's Someday New.

The new album of the Grammy-winning Angeleno band titled Buenaventura, doesn't have a release date yet, but the first single is out: a swing with norteño flavor called "I Won't Cry For You," and it's another killer.

After setting up an accordion-driven stomping beat, La Marisoul's voice kicks in to unroll the reasons for breaking up an unsatisfactory relationship—one that "doesn't have the goods" and has made her life "such a bore." The music is tight, and La Marisoul's delivery is pure vintage class.

Then the accordion takes the stage for a solo and, a bit later, it peaks with an energetic bridge full of handclaps and rollicking oh-oh-oh backup vocals. And when it ends, you want to play it again.

José Manuel Simián is the Executive Editor of Manero. He used to be a lawyer and is probably listening to Bob Dylan as you read this.
