Get Your Dose of Ibeyi
Cuban-French duo Ibeyi started making noise in the United States during last year's SXSW festival, but it took Beyoncé's blessing through their participation in Lemonade for everyone to start paying attention.
The music created by 20-year-old twin sisters Lisa-Kaindé and Naomi Díaz —daughters to Cuban percussionist Miguel Angá Díaz— deftly fuses R&B, downtempo and santería, creating a sound that is both primitive and sophisticated, raw and elegant. No surprise that Queen B fell for their talent.
After participating in the controversial Chanel fashion show in Havana at the beginning of May, Ibeyi closed the first leg of their current American tour with a performance in Miami Beach.
They will return to the States at the end of May, after a string of European dates. Catch them live if you can.
In the meantime, listen to their stunning eponymous debut.
